Discover the power of your gut
Did you know that your gut not only regulates your digestion, but also has a major impact on your mood, immune system and overall health? As Fermentistas - Marta and Joanna Klejman - we have shared our passion for fermentation and healthy eating for many years. That's why we were incredibly happy when we were asked to participate in The big message, the new TV program on VRT that revolves entirely around gut health. In episode 3, we take you into the wonderful world of fermentation and the importance of a healthy gut microbiome.
Why The big message is so important
Our gut microbiome, made up of trillions of bacteria, plays a crucial role in our health. Yet there is still much ignorance and even shame surrounding topics such as bowel movements and intestinal problems. The big message wants to break those taboos and shows how nutrition has a huge impact on your gut health.
We're participating because we believe fermented foods are one of the best ways to support your gut microbiome. It's packed with probiotics - the good bacteria that help your gut function optimally. With our participation, we want to show that fermenting is not only healthy, but also simple and fun.
On 27/11 get an inside look into the world of fermentation and making natural probiotics. Karine will join us for a fermentation workshop. In addition, we'll talk about why eating fermented vegetables is important for your gut health.
Fermented foods and your gut microbiome
Healthy gut flora helps you reduce inflammation, absorb nutrients better and even improve your mood. Jeroen Raes, a renowned microbiologist, states that food is one of the most powerful tools to support your gut microbiome. Fermented foods play a key role in this because they naturally contain probiotics that strengthen your gut.
Prof. Jeroen Raes of the Flemish Intestinal Flora Project emphasizes that people with a diverse gut microbiome are often healthier. He advocates a varied diet high in fiber and probiotics to maintain the balance in your gut.

How do you add fermentation to your daily life?
Fermenting may sound complicated, but it doesn't have to be. Here are a few simple ways to incorporate fermented foods into your daily routine:
- A spoonful of kimchi with your breakfast or lunch
- Sauerkraut As a topping on your salad or sourdough roll
- One shot turmeric & ginger shot as an anti-inflammatory drink
- Kefir in your smoothie or as a base for your dressing
